About Claire

I am a volcanologist with a passion for numerical modelling. I completed my BSc in Geological Hazards at the University of Portsmouth, followed by a PhD at the University of Leeds. I now work as an Associate Professor at University College Dublin, where I lead the Geohazards Research Group.

My primary research interests lie in volcano stability, and my team broadly approaches stability in different contexts (e.g. lava dome growth and collapse, caldera collapse and resurgence) using different methods (computational modelling, fieldwork, rock mechanics). I am a PI on the European Research Council funded grant ROTTnROCK, which explores the role of hydrothermal alteration in unexpected volcanic events. I love thinking about how we characterise and model volcanic rock masses to best inform volcanic process and hazard.

Here, you’ll find information about my research group, ongoing research projects, publications, and latest news. Whether you are a fellow researcher, a prospective student, or simply curious about modelling volcanic stability, feel free to get in touch!
